Psalm 23:2 He leads me beside the still waters Psalm 46:10 Be still, & know that I am God
When thinking about these verses I remember a time when I took great pleasure in being by still waters. In the photo above you will see me reading a book in my favourite park in London. I used to get on my bicycle & go down to this park whenever I could & just hang out & be still. I feel peaceful just thinking about it again & I am sure that this is the next step on the Less is More process. A time to be still & peaceful! Of course my immediate reaction to that is “what, do nothing!”. I think many people would struggle with this part of the process, decluttering is an active thing but to do nothing is even more difficult. Most people will start to clutter again, finding things to fill the void & get busy with new things. I know this to be true because I have seen it. People struggle with rest & hide behind busyness. I too have been caught in this trap in the past which is why I am determined to do this step well. If it’s time to rest & be still then God obviously has a reason for it so who am I to argue?
Now please keep this in perspective though! I have 4 children & lead a church with my husband, it’s not like I am going to sit on the sofa & stare into space all day ha ha. Jesus did commend Mary over Martha though, as she chose to sit at Jesus feet. There was work that needed to be done, but before she got busy she was still. This is what Jesus said to her in Luke 10:41-42, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.“
I would love to hear what God is doing in your life too, why not post a comment in the comment box below? Have a great week xxx
